Physical Therapists

Nancy Reynolds, PT, MEd
Nancy received her Physical Therapy degree from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, and a Master’s degree in sports medicine/athletic training from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Her 40+ years of physical therapy practice have included work in rural and urban hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home health, schools, and teaching. Nancy received the 2011 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award from the NCPTA; a prestigious honor awarded to one clinician in NC each year. Nancy has developed a passionate interest in working with patients with Parkinson's disease. She is certified in PWR! Exercise for Brain Change and the Allied Team Training program through the Movement Disorder Society & National Parkinson Foundation. Her clinic is included in the network directory of UNC's National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence.

Outside of her rewarding career, Nancy enjoys creating beautiful pieces of art glass, exercising, and reading.

Janet Snyder, PT
Janet Snyder PT, COMT graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2001 with a Masters in Physical Therapy. Since graduation, Janet has worked exclusively in outpatient treatment serving in a variety of settings from small community clinics to large hospital system rehabilitation departments. Over the years, Janet expanded her expertise with study in the McKenzie method of spine treatment. Maitland Manual Therapy, and orthopaedic advanced study. She obtained her OCS certification in 2010 and her Maitland COMT certification in 2013. She has maintained her COMT certification while working closely with orthopedic surgeons from UNC Hospitals and Wake Orthopaedics to learn the most recent clinical guidelines for post-operative orthopaedic rehabilitation. Janet originally worked with Reynolds and Associates Physical Therapy from 2007 to 2011 and is elated to have rejoined the excellent staff here in July 2018.

Lindsey Kenny, PT, DPT
Dr. Lindsey Kenny is driven by her belief that age is an asset, not a condition. She helps people thrive in motion (not age in place) through specialized therapy in balance and falls prevention, neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s, and orthopedic injuries. Lindsey joined our team in November 2011. Dr. Kenny has over 10 years of experience and holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and an Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate in Aging from UNC-Chapel Hill. She is certified in PwR!4Life™ for Parkinson’s treatment and the Otago Exercise Program for balance training.

Outside the office, she can be found with her handsome husband and 3 young children hiking around and splashing in the Eno River.

Cristina Baric Layne, PT, DPT
Dr. Cristina Layne earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Elon University in December 2013. Cristina completed her clinical rotation with us and then joined our physical therapy team in January 2014. Cristina has experience in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient orthopedics. She is interested in pursuing an Orthopedic Manual Therapy Certification.

Outside of the clinic Cristina enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, and running.

Claire McCormick, PT, DPT, GCS
Dr. Claire McCormick joined us in October 2015. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from Duke University in 2012, followed by her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University in 2015. Claire’s clinical expertise is in geriatrics and neurological rehabilitation, with extensive training in the management of Parkinson’s disease. She is certified in LSVT BIG®, PWR!Moves®, and Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson’s. Claire also obtained her board certification in Geriatric Physical Therapy (GCS) through the American Physical Therapy Association in 2022. She is passionate about empowering older adults and helping them build resiliency in their lives.

Outside of the clinic, Claire stays active by singing in the Choral Society of Durham, volunteering at her church, spending time with her husband and two children, and cheering on the Duke Blue Devils.

Ellie Rubin, PT, DPT
Dr. Ellie Rubin Guidice earned her B.A. in Urban Design and M.A. in Historic and Sustainable Architecture from NYU. While her subsequent professional experience focused on skyscraper architecture and urban landscape design, a career change brought Ellie back to her hometown of Chapel Hill where she received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UNC Chapel Hill. She trained at UNC Hospitals, Frye Regional Medical Center, and UNC outpatient clinics throughout the triangle and is a Certified Senior Fitness Specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Ellie joined our team in November 2018. In addition to the treatment of orthopedic injuries, Ellie has special interest in vestibular rehabilitation.

Outside of the clinic, Ellie enjoys watching baseball, gardening, and being outdoors with her husband Eddie and boxer dog.

Meredith Smythe, PT, DPT
Dr. Meredith Smythe earned her B.A. in Dramatic Arts from UNC Chapel Hill. She worked as an English teacher for two years in France and taught English for a year at a University in Ecuador. She later earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from UNC Chapel Hill. She trained at Triangle Orthopedics/D1 Sports, UNC hospitals, Carol Woods, and the Program of All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly in Burlington. Meredith joined our team in July 2020. Dr. Smythe has taken extra training to treat patients with Parkinson's disease by completing the PWR Power Moves Therapist training.

Dr. Smythe became interested in physical therapy from her love for movement and exercise. Growing up Dr. Smythe was a year round USS swimmer, soccer player, runner and she started practicing yoga asanas/poses at age 14. In high school and college she took many forms of dance while studying theater and studied/ worked at various yoga studios and studied various styles of poses. Dr. Smythe is a yoga teacher through the yoga alliance, RYT 250, and has completed continuing education on how to use yoga poses as therapeutic exercise. She adapts yoga poses as stretches and helps people to listen and honor their bodies in ways where they will avoid injury, heal optimally, and become as strong as possible. Outside the clinic, she enjoys meditation, Nature, speaking other languages, gardening, and spending time with her mother and cat.

Clara Backus, PT, DPT
Dr. Clara Backus earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in 2016. She then completed a residency in Geriatrics at the Durham VA and successfully became a Board Certified Specialist in Geriatric Physical Therapy in 2018. Clara joined our team in June 2022. She has committed her career to helping older adults maximize their engagement in meaningful activities through movement and an understanding of their own body. Her special interests include treatment of osteoporosis, falls and dizziness.

Clara is most proud to be a mother to two girls and enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her husband and daughters. Fun facts about Clara are that she used to dance Cape Breton step dance, play the bassoon, and throw hammer for Elon Track and Field.

Rebecca Eichner, PT DPT
Dr. Rebecca Eichner graduated from Towson University in 2009, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree (Summa Cum Laude) from the Honors Psychology Program all while completing pre-physical therapy courses. Rebecca went on to earn her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2012 at the University of Pittsburgh. Since graduation, Rebecca has worked in a multitude of settings to include: home health, outpatient, short term rehab, assisted living and long term care. Rebecca enjoys working with the aging population and is certified in the Otago Exercise Program for progressive balance training and is a Functional Standards for Optimal Aging Expert (FSOAE), trained to administer, interpret and recommend specific exercises based on results on the Adult Functional Independence Test (AFIT). Rebecca joined our team in June 2022. Rebecca is committed to providing her patients with individualized one-on-one care and finds fulfillment in assisting patients in returning to normal function.

When not in the clinic, Rebecca enjoys movies, traveling, interior design, all things Disney, spending time with her husband, family, friends and her two dogs Cinnamon and Sugar.

Melissa Cummings, PT DPT, MSCS
Dr. Melissa Cummings completed her Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sports Science, from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then accepted a position as a Multiple Sclerosis Scholar and earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After years of service within Wake County, she moved with her family to Singapore where she continued to provide high-level care to her patients. Now she brings her international experience and passion for empowering her patients to improve their daily lives back to the Triangle. Melissa joined our team in Aug 2022.

Melissa is a patron of the arts and former professional ballerina who continues to support the arts and work with local dancers.

Office Administration & Billing

Debbie Baker, CPC
Debbie joined us in January of 2011 as our Practice Administration and Billing Manager. She originally worked in computer programming for 10 years after receiving a BS in Computer Science. She then took time out of the work force to raise her 3 children, 1 son and twin girls. Debbie retrained in Health Information Technology, receiving her CPC medical coding certification in 2009. She was a physician medical coder prior to finding her home at Reynolds & Associates PT. As a billing specialist, Debbie communicates extensively with insurance companies and is the primary point of contact for patients' insurance questions, handling all billing matters. She has contributed greatly to improving the overall efficiency of office procedures and billing processes. Outside the office Debbie enjoys spending time playing tennis.

Spencer Dougherty
Spencer originally worked with our front desk team from January 2012 – 2015, and returned to us in May 2021. As part of this team, Spencer is available to help patients with scheduling and insurance needs. Prior to this, she spent 20 years in the real estate management field in the Chapel Hill/Durham area. Spencer is an eastern North Carolina native who attended Appalachian State University. Having raised a son who is now a college freshman, Spencer is using her free time to enjoy hiking with her dog Tillie, reading, practicing yoga and spending time with friends. Travel is becoming a new found interest.

Kathie Bright
Kathie joined us in September of 2023.

Physical Therapy Techs: These girls help keep the clinic running smoothly and orderly. In addition to their scheduling and clerical duties, they are available to help wellness participants in understanding exercises, operating equipment, and completing their workout in the facility.

Isabelle Zachariah
Isabelle is an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She is expected to graduate in May 2025 with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science major paired with a Sports Medicine minor. Following graduation, she is planning to earn her DPT. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys dancing, photography, staying active, travelling, spending quality time with others, and trying new cuisines!



Giselle Lopez-Garcia
Giselle is an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She will graduate in May 2024 with a double major in Human Development & Family Sciences and Exercise & Sports Science with a Health & Society minor. Following graduation, she plans to apply to a DPT program. Outside of the clinic and school, she enjoys spending time with friends & family, trying new foods, and playing soccer.




Anne Foster
Anne Foster is an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She will graduate in May 2025 with a degree in Exercise Sports Science Major paired with a minor in Health and Society. Following graduation, she plans to continue school and become a Physical Therapist. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her friends, cooking and spending time outdoors.
